Wireless Priority Service (WPS)
June 2020
Wireless Priority Service (WPS) is a Department of Homeland Security service that provides end-to-end voice priority over the AT&T mobility network, including interoperability with other carriers. Customer qualification is managed by the Cybersecurity and Infrastructure Security Agency’s Emergency Communications Division(ECD).
FirstNet subscribers on the dedicated FirstNet Core can have WPS and FirstNet on the same device.
About WPS |
Wireless Priority Service provides the ability for designated users to initiate priority voice call treatment in times of emergency and congestion.
|
How does it work? |
Once you are approved and provisioned with WPS, dial *272 plus a 10 digit destination number and your call is handled with priority. |
Who is it for? |
WPS supports federal, state, local, tribal and territorial governments; public safety and emergency responders; industry partners who are responsible for maintaining the nation’s critical infrastructure; and other authorized users. Typical WPS users are responsible for the command and control functions critical to management of and response to national security and emergency situations. |
Do I have to qualify? |
Customers have to qualify for WPS by virtue of having an NS/EP (National Security / Emergency Preparedness) or Critical Infrastructure mission. |
How do I get it? |
WPS is administered and authorized for use by the Department of Homeland Security (DHS), Emergency Communications Division(ECD). The ECD requires organizations have a single point of contact (POC) who is able to submit WPS requests online. However, large or geographically dispersed organizations may elect to establish multiple POCs. If you already know your organization’s POC, please contact that individual to request enrollment in WPS. Organizations without a POC will need to establish one. Go to https://www.cisa.gov/wireless-priority-service-wps to learn more about WPS and how to establish a POC. |
WPS Pricing? |
The is no setup fee, usage charges [Minutes of Use(MOU)], or a Monthly Recurring Charge (MRC) for WPS services. |
